Humane, practical and effective: a dialogue on alternative asylum seeker policies
September 4, 2013 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Australia’s asylum seeker policies have long been the subject of deep criticism. With this panel event, we wanted to discuss the problems but also open up a positive dialogue about practical, humane solutions. Our speakers were:
Jessie Taylor, a member of the Victorian Bar and co-writer and producer of the films ‘We Will Be Remembered For This’ (2007) and ‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ (2011).
Dr Savitri Taylor, an academic at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Savitri is also a member of the Management Committee of the Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre and a member of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network.
Dr Anne McNevin, a researcher in the area of Critical International Relations, Political Theory, and Migration Studies. Anne is associate editor of the journal Citizenship Studies and currently chairs the Forced Migration Research Hub, a network of scholars working on forced migration issues in the Asia-Pacific.
